Patriots Rumors: Ravens FA Ronnie Stanley Is 'The Apple Of Their Eye' For Drake Maye

The New England Patriots reportedly believe the perfect candidate to protect quarterback Drake Maye might be hitting free agency next week.

Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl left tackle Ronnie Stanley is considered "the apple of their eye" if he hits free agency this offseason, according to combine rumors relayed by ESPN's Mike Reiss.

The Patriots' offensive line struggled mightily last season, and the front office is looking for a left tackle to take over for Cole Strange, who was injured for most of the 2024 season and played at center when he returned.

Stanley, who started all 17 games and allowed just three sacks last season with the Ravens, would be a significant upgrade. He ranked among the top 12 offensive tackles in the league last season in ESPN's Pass Block Win Rate.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday at the end of the combine that the "sense out of Indy" is the Ravens and Stanley "can agree to terms on an extension in the coming days."

According to Fowler, league insiders project Stanley to receive in the range of $21-$23 million in annual salary on his next deal.

The Ravens reworked his contract last season to create cap space by giving him lower base pay. Amid another cap crunch this offseason, the Baltimore Sun's Brian Wacker recently reported the team might have to choose between re-signing Stanley or left guard Patrick Mekari.

If Stanley decides to maximize his earning power in free agency, an offer from the Patriots and their NFL-high salary cap space could potentially beat out what the cap-strapped Ravens can offer.

If Stanley does hit free agency, however, the Patriots may face another competitor in the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are another team that could be prioritizing their offensive line this offseason after Patrick Mahomes took six sacks in their recent Super Bowl loss, and The Athletic's Nate Taylor reported Wednesday they are expected to target Stanley should he become available.

The Patriots and Chiefs will be able to begin officially negotiating with Stanley if he is still available on Monday at noon ET. Free agency officially begins when the new league year kicks off next Wednesday at 4 p.M. ET.
